It’s not a crime to be gay

The Delhi High Court on Thursday legalised homosexual acts between consenting adults by overturning a 149-year-old law finding it unconstitutional and a hurdle in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The court held that the provision violated fundamental rights (of the sexual minorities) to life, liberty, equality and the provision regarding prohibition of discrimination on grounds of sex. Harish V Nair reports. Economic Survey seeks policy shift, taxes slashed
The Govt’s pre-budget economic survey has recommended radical policy changes including foreign investment in multi-brand retail, increasing work hours for factory workers and allowing overseas institutions in higher education.The survey, which predicted the economy to grow 7 per cent this fiscal year, also pushed for abolishing fringe benefit tax (FBT), surcharges and cesses. ‘Al-Qaeda supported LeT to carry out Mumbai train bombings’
The United States and the United Nations Security Council have said that Al-Qaeda provided support to the Lashkar-e-Tayyeba to carry out the July 2006 training bombings in Mumbai and the February 2007 Samjhauta Express blasts in Panipat, reports Tushar Srivastava.
